Black Hat SEO brings a lot of controversy to the table, and for good reason. Although in practice some black hat tactics might seem unethical, they can be wildly effective for your web promotion strategy. As in all things in life, I think it's necessary to have a balance when it comes to web promotion. Black hat has its place on the web, and many people successfully use the techniques every day. It's common knowledge that the Google search engine bots are basically artificial intelligence. The good thing about artificial intelligence is that it can be tricked and taken advantage of. Black hatters have perfected the craft of tricking this intelligence, which results in higher search engine rankings for them. When Google updates their algorithms, though, sometimes the the work of a black hatter is quickly undone. A technique that was once effective now no longer works. I feel this type of thing goes with the territory, thus making black hat techniques no quite as unfair as you might think. It's quite easy to start putting black hat techniques to work for your website. Some techniques are as simple as stuffing your meta tags with your desired keywords. Google also likes bolded words and heading tags, it wouldn't hurt to use some of these effects on your page content. Black hat seo covers a broad spectrum of tactics, and there's even more advanced black hat seo strategies, such as cloaking. Cloaking is a tactic used by black hatters which feeds the search engine bot a different page than a human viewer. The alternate page for the search engine bot is optimized to get the highest rank possible. As you can probably guess, this technique is super effective for getting great page rankings. This black hat tactic, however, will put your website at risk so make sure you experiment with other throw-away sites before using it with one of your main websites. |
